چکیده

We propose an interpolation-free sub-pixel Motion Estimation (ME) technique that particularly aims at providing accurate Motion Vectors (MVs), where conventional sub-pixel interpolation ME algorithms used in video coding are too complex and time consuming. The proposed algorithm is a combination of block matching algorithms and simplified optical flow, which is Taylor approximation. The technique does not require any pixel interpolation and it is much faster than conventional ME methods. Statistical results illustrate that the new technique performs quickly and accurately with a compatible performance with respect to the benchmarking full search algorithm.

Traffic Scene Analysis using Hierarchical Sparse Topical Coding

Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video contents. Such descriptions may further be employed in different traffic applications such as traffic phase detection and abnormal event detection. One of the most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis is based on topic models. In this pa...

An optical flow based motion compensation algorithm for very low bit-rate video coding

In this paper, we propose an e cient compression algorithm for very low bit-rate video applications. The algorithm is based on (1) opticalow motion estimation to achieve more accurate motion prediction elds; (2) DCT-coding of the motion vectors from the opticalow estimation to further reduce the motion overheads; and (3) region adaptive threshold technique to match optical ow motion prediction ...

Optical Flow Estimation Using Genetic Algorithms

This paper illustrates a new optical flow estimation technique, which builds upon a genetic algorithm (GA). First, the current frame is segmented into generic shape regions, using only brightness information. For each region a two-parameter motion model is estimated using a GA. The fittest individuals identified at the end of this step are used to initialise the population of the second step of...

Long-term global motion estimation and its application for sprite coding, content description, and segmentation

In this paper, we present a new technique for longterm global motion estimation of image objects. The estimated motion parameters describe the continuous and time-consistent motion over the whole sequence relatively to a fixed reference coordinate system. The proposed method is suitable for the estimation of affine motion parameters as well as for higher order motion models like the parabolic m...

Multiscale modeling and estimation of motion fields for video coding

We present a systematic approach to forward-motion-compensated predictive video coding. The first step is the definition of a flexible model that compactly represents motion fields. The inhomogeneity and spatial coherence properties of motion fields are captured using linear multiscale models. One possible design is based on linear finite elements and yields a multiscale extension of the triang...
